"The church stood empty of all visible life. A sign read "Due to Hurricane Katrina, Services will be Cancelled for Today. God Bless Us All." Doors remained locked, but with shattered windows locks were no barrier to this once-thriving house of God. The church office showed water lines of eight feet, clearly demolishing any hopes of renewed life for the epson printer tilted on the desktop, the hp computers lying beneath, or the necessarily-prized church records in opened, soggy boxes. It seemed no one had entered since the flood; if so, they'd left saddened, helpless to begin. Without light the worship center remained eerily dark, hymnals thrown atop pews dank with damage, a cross perched sideways and covered in mud and other debris. I felt melancholy, bereft. It seemed that even God had left New Orleans during Katrina."

The devastation left by Katrina is heart-wrenching.
